Coach T’s Response to ALS

I do not get on Facebook very often but I am grateful that my wife posted an update on what’s going on with my health and I have been

overwhelmed with texts and calls and messages from everyone in my life from Northpark Elementary to Roy High, Snow College, CMU my Mission to the amazing people I’ve coached and worked with at Northridge & Ogden high and my great neighbors in South Weber. I knew I couldn’t handle this alone and know God has heard your prayers! I am truly grateful to each one of you and you all hold a special place in my heart. We are all F.A.M.I.L.Y.   I have trusted God and eventually turned it over to him to Prevail.

With that said I was blessed to get connected to the Mayo Clinic for some answers. They believe I do have a neurological disease and not MMN (autoimmune)

The bad news I was told I have ALS.

Obviously I was heartbroken and had numerous tests for the next 2 days until my final assessment meeting. During this time I plead with the Lord for a miracle. I felt everyone’s prayers on my behalf. I felt hope and have an unwavering belief in his love for us all and a plan to overcome hard things in this life and find joy!

The Doctor said there’s good and bad news,

I saw and was grateful for the good news!

I have a very unique and rare version of ALS that for some reason is moving slower than normal! The doctor told me he believes I will see my kids graduate and marry and likely their children before it gets me.

I feel very positive God was giving me a second chance and promised to serve him and my amazing family with the time (gift) he has given me.

I will return to the mayo clinic for them to check on me each year and they are confident other than being extremely weak I can live a normal life for many years.

I am overwhelmed with Joy! I know hard days are ahead but this unlikely scenario of God holding off what should get me by now to me is certainly a Miracle! A Tender Mercy.

Thank You Again! I could not have made it through without you all!  I will get back to coaching and teaching and spending time with my family.  I still have a lot to do and look forward to the future.

God is great! I am so grateful for the compensatory blessings I have in my life.
